Spanish Class
K - 2 Parents Letter
Dear Parents and Guardians:
¡Bienvenidos! My name is Megan Ciccarello and I will be your child’s Spanish teacher this year. We are beginning an exciting journey together as your child learns more about other languages and cultures around the world. The Spanish program for grades K - 2 is centered around a communicative approach that emphasizes oral language skills pertaining to everyday conversations. Your child will receive Spanish instruction twice a week for a half hour each session. Most of the instruction will take place in the classroom but there may be occasional homework assignments, so please check our class blog at www.spanishgoodshepherd.wordpress.com periodically. Topics that will be covered in this year’s curriculum include:
- Greetings and salutations
- Introducing yourself and others
- Objects and people in the classroom
- Numbers 1-30
- Personal feelings
- Colors
- Shapes
- Body parts
- Animals
- The date and calendar
- Family members
- Weather
- Clothing
- Cultural traditions and holidays in Spanish-speaking countries
Learning a second language is an exciting opportunity that is very useful in today’s diverse world. My goals this year for your child include helping him or her to develop vocabulary and knowledge of key phrases in the Spanish language and to help him or her to appreciate cultural differences between our culture and those of Spanish-speaking countries around the world. We will be learning in many different ways including singing, dancing, role-playing, and crafts. I have attached the specific supply list for your child’s class. Please have these supplies ready for our first class, which will occur during the week of September 2.
If you need to contact me for any reason, please do not hesitate to do so. You can either call the school at (310) 275-8601 and leave me a message or email me at Spanish@goodshepherdbeverlyhills.com and I will respond as quickly as possible. Thank you very much and I look forward to working with you and your child!
Sincerely,
Miss Megan Ciccarello
