February 3, 2009

Dear Parents:

Spring is almost here and the Easter season will begin. As we continue in our Lenten journey the students have participated in the Stations of the Cross every Friday morning and will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for Holy Week. We continue to pray, be helpful and generous to others. Additionally, in Religion class the students will be learning about the Triduum and the special way we celebrate the Paschal mystery. The Sixth Grade Retreat will be held in the Parish Center on March 20, 2009, All students will be dropped off and picked up at the Parish Center on that date.

Also, we will be participating in a field trip to the Beverly Hills Library this month to continue our research for the Social Studies Fair scheduled for March 25. The students have been working diligently in class with their groups. This year’s theme is on their “Heritage”. Additionally, the class can utilize the time at the library to continue learning about reference and research skills, as well as, expand knowledge learned in class about the Dewey Decimal System, computer catalogs, electronic resources and information cards.

Thirdly, the students are participating in reading the play The Phantom Tollbooth in their literature textbooks while learning about the elements and literary focus of drama; such as, staging, scene and dialogue. The class enjoyed reading Act I this week and will continue with Act II. This play is based on the book by Norton Juster.

In Social Studies, we continue to learn about ancient civilizations. Our focus of study for this month is Ancient America which includes Andean, Olmec of Meso-America and the Mayan civilizations while incorporating geographic map skills of these regional areas.

Once again, thank you for your continuing support this school year.

Have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Sincerely,

Sincerely,
Ms. Dickson
